Foot Pain? Foot Problems? We can fix that!

  • Do your feet hurt?
  • Do you have trouble walking?
  • Are your bunions getting worse?

We have Certified Pedorthists (Foot and Orthotic Specialists) and Chiropractors in Nanaimo all in one location. Harbour City Chiropractic and Island Pedorthic FootCare work together in keeping people active, moving and pain-free.

We integrate the best that both Pedorthics and Chiropractic have to offer into a well-rounded approach with the assessment of your feet, legs, hips and knees all taken into account; the best option for treatment all in one location.

  • Certified Pedorthists (Foot and Orthotic Specialists) are specially trained in assessing the client feet and legs and determining which orthotics, devices and materials will provide the best solutions to the patient’s individual problems.
  • Chiropractors are well trained in biomechanics and movement patterns up the kinetic chain from your feet, to your knees, hips, low back and pelvis; so we can determine how problems with the feet contribute to pain and disability in other areas of the body.

Do You Need Orthotics?

Faulty foot biomechanics can cause a chain reaction affecting the way you walk, stand, and move in everyday physical activities. Your feet are the foundation for everything above it. Misalignment in the feet causes misalignment at every level above.

You would benefit from custom orthotics if you exhibit any one of the following symptoms:

  • Localized Foot Pain
  • Bunions

Laura - age 62:
"Dr. Katia Langton transformed my foot pain from an intensity of 7.5 out of 10 constantly into joyful, effortless walking. Eight months of suffering and now immediate relief with the orthotics. I am so happy."

Joy (age  74):  "I thought my foot pain was from neuropathy from my Diabetes and that I had to live with it. But at the clinic, I found out that it was Arthritis causing me the problems and not neuropathy. Island Pedorthic FootCare made me a cushioning orthotic for Arthritic feet and my foot pain was decreased by 70% immediately. I was able to walk around Disneyworld for 12 hour days with these orthotics. So pleasantly surprised since I did not think it would help this much!”

Richard (age 29):  “Since I got the orthotics I have noticed a large decrease in my back and knee pain and it’s only been a week or so.  Love them, love them, love them.  No pain after my 12 hour shift!”

Jeff Hurst (age  50):  “Prior to getting my orthotics, I used to get a lot of pain in my left knee with each step I took.  From the moment I started using my orthotics I haven’t had any pain in my knee.  I love my new orthotics.”

How Do I Know What Types of Orthotics I Need?

Functional Orthotics are used to improve biomechanics or the way that you move. Commonly functional orthotics are made of semi-rigid materials. Accommodative devices are more often used in cases of Neuropathy, Diabetes, Arthritis and other conditions requiring protection and support. Assessing exactly what each person needs is an involved process that requires a thorough understanding of the relationship of your feet to the rest of your body and your overall health.

At Island Pedorthic FootCare the orthotic screening takes about thirty minutes and includes a computerized gait analysis and a thorough biomechanical evaluation and consultation and slipper casting to get an exact impression of the foot.

The clinic uses the Footmaxx system to analyze each unique gait pattern.

Our Metascan dynamic software scans foot pressures 150 times per second tracking 8 key points along the bottom of the foot. This information along with our clinical exam helps us determine how an orthotic will help compensate for biomechanical deficiencies, dampen excessive force and redistribute force transfer. This information combined with our custom impression of your foot and our knowledge of materials and design allows us to produce the most appropriate device for each individual client.
